Dead Dance
This is a digital collage that I completed recently as an assignment in my Digital Imaging course. I began working without any vision or plan in mind, but through playing with some images of lightning, I gained the inspiration for this piece, Dead Dance. I was working on this piece as Halloween was approaching, which helped inspire the imagery as well as the color palette. Leave a comment and let me know what you guys think!

Quick Digital Sketch
Here's a quick digital sketch I did last night. I was just playing around with some inking and coloring techniques in Adobe Illustrator as well as a quick gradient mesh for the background. Hope you enjoy the result!

New illustration
In my last post, I showed my process in my first ever project using Adobe Illustrator. This time I will go through the process of my latest Illustration, which I just finished moments before writing this post.
In one of my graphic design courses I was asked to create an Illustration in the style of a professional designer. I chose to attempt to re-create the style of Drew Millward, who's work I really appreciated. I know it pales in comparison, but I hope to someday achieve the level of complexity and intricacy that Drew's illustrations provide.
I started off by looking through piles of his stuff online and tried to accumulate some themes, characters or any other inspiration. One big thing I wanted to focus on was the dripping nature of a lot of Drew's work. Things are often fluid and gooey and oozing and I wanted to capture that. He also had several pieces based around ice cream which I decided to incorporate into my design. After all my research and a few preliminary sketches, I came up with this draft.

I then brought this sketch into Illustrator and began to go to work. I spent many more hours than I had anticipated on this project and by this point I am glad to be done with it. Overall, I liked the way it turned out and it has gotten me excited to do more digital Illustrating. Already excited for the next one!

The Bull King
This was my first ever project done with Adobe Illustrator and was completed as part of my FVA course last year. I gained inspiration for this piece through my studies of Mesopotamian and Akkadian art in my history class. I took the concept of a bearded bull 's head, which is a symbol of royalty in Mesopotamian art and combined it with elements from a mask of an ancient Akkadian ruler. This is what led me to The Bull King, a powerful, anthropomorphic leader. I have included some of my source imagery as well as my initial sketch and final Illustration. I hope you enjoy.

We all know Winter is Coming; and in anticipation I thought I would upload some snowboarding photos from the last few years at Poley Mountain. Can't wait to get back out there and to get some more good shots.

So here is the first ever blog post of my career and I am going to start off by posting a quick selfie. Over the next little while I will be continuing to upload photos of work that I've done over the past few years and I will also be uploading new work in the future as the blog progresses. I intend to keep the blog up to date on all of my past/current/future endeavours in Art & Design and I hope to continue grow and expand in the process. I invite you to come along for the ride and join in the conversation. Your feedback is greatly appreciated and I hope that you enjoy the work.
Much love,
